  • Overview

    This position is an integral part of our content strategy team, responsible for developing and leading our content strategy within South Africa and across the region (the “Market”).  The Head of Content, Africa will be an expert on locally produced content in the Market, having a strong network of relationships with all local suppliers as well as with all of the major international distributors in the Market, including both the studios and independents.

     

    You will have a solid understanding of the content delivery landscape, including linear channels, Pay TV, Satellite, OTT and other streaming platforms.  In addition, a solid understanding of the video-on-demand ecosystem is also required (TVOD, SVOD, EST, AVOD, etc.).

     

    We are looking for an experienced content connoisseur – with at least 5-6 years‘ experience in a content acquisition and/or programming role, preferably across multiple African markets. Prior experience working in the Market is preferable, in particular dealing with South Africa and Nigeria.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Be the local television expert in the region, understanding all key players within the value chain (from production through to consumption)
    • Defining the content strategy and product mix for all new launches in the Market
    • Evaluate and update as necessary the content strategy and product mix for existing affiliates in the Market
    • Establish and maintain relationships with all local content suppliers in the Market
    • Manage the relationship with local major studio stakeholders
    • Understand the content propositions (pricing packages and content bundles) of all existing delivery platforms in the Market so as to effectively develop and recommend the right strategy for our existing and prospective affiliates
    • Support Sales and account management with local requirements and bids
    • Attend all relevant trade shows/markets (e.g. Content)
    • Manager all other relevant functions within the Content Team to execute our local content strategy
    • Serve as the customer interface for all content related matters
    • Coordinate closely with licensing team to secure rights for relevant windows to deliver against content strategy (e.g. Pre-Theatrical, EST, PVOD, AVOD, TVOD, PPV, Pay 1, Pay 2, Free, Library SVOD etc…)

    Qualifications

    • 5-6 years‘ experience in a content acquisition and/or programming role, within Africa
    • VOD experience is required
    • Solid working knowledge and understanding of the general media landscape
    • Ability to quickly grasp and deal with the complexities of individual countries within the Market
    • Problem solver and analytical, who can come up with creative solutions to practical issues
    • Strategic thinker, understanding minor details within the context of the “bigger picture”
    • Strong networker with current contacts across the local media industry
    • Efficient and good at time-management
    • Excellent communication skills, including ability to tailor communication to audience to achieve desired results
    • Comfortable presenting to, and negotiating with, key decision makers including C-level executives
    • Highly responsible and self-motivated, able to thrive in an energetic, fast paced entrepreneurial environment
    • Team player who can build relationships at all levels of the organization
    • Strong IT skills – in particular ability to handle Excel modelling and PowerPoint presentations
