  • Overview

    The System Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership and engineering tasks with a primary focus on Microsoft Infrastructure services and applications. This position is responsible for the organization's technology infrastructure including computers, servers, and storage; performing troubleshooting, problem analysis and disaster recovery for WAN/LAN.​ Responsibilities include providing system administration support and teams with others to install and maintain the company's system, storage, and virtual compute infrastructure.​ The Systems Engineer is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the data center as well as performing maintenance and troubleshooting of network problems.​ Proficiency is required in concept of operations development, system design and review, requirements definition, system transition planning, and supporting defined system integration tasks. 


    • Performs server administration functions, including configuring, installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and operating systems.​
    • Analyzes network and system resource utilization and implements solutions to correct problems to ensure all applications are accessible and functioning properly.​
    • Identifies and recommends appropriate changes to infrastructure to improve performance, reliability and availability
    • Build, maintains, and manages physical and virtual infrastructure
    • Proactively manages and troubleshoots SAN/NAS environment, including capacity planning/availability, quotas, and snapshots to optimize performance
    • Manages enterprise backup/restore of critical business systems/services and performs periodic audits and restore testing  
    • Collaborates with System Administrators/Engineers and Network Engineers as needed
    • Provides 24/7 support of systems and applications in local and remote offices
    • Conducts analysis and participates in implementation planning for new applications, as needed

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Perform systems engineering activities in all phases of a project, to include discovery, design, build, test, and deploy
    • Researches and evaluates network and server hardware and software options and upgrades including updates, patches, and service packs, as needed


    • MCSE required
    • VCP5-DCV is a plus
    • CCNA is a plus
    • 5+ years directly related experience in a Professional Services or IT Consulting environment
    • 5+​ years in Systems and Network Administration in an organization with more than 100 users and demonstrated experience with administration of Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange 2010, and Windows 2008/2012 Servers
    • Knowledge and experience within the Microsoft stack of applications and platforms
    • Demonstrated knowledge of server configurations: RAID, SAN, networking protocols, IIS, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, VPN technologies, firewalls and security certificates
    • Demonstrated ability in diagnosing and remedying critical server-related problems and failures promptly and effectively
    • Demonstrated knowledge of blade infrastructure (HP/Cisco and networking components
    • Knowledge of in/out of band management
    • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
    • Excellent communications, interpersonal and customer support skills
    • Ability to work in a high energy team environment

    Key Results and Deliverables (What does success look like):

    • Prompt time to diagnosis of performance and service impacting events
    • Take ownership of a service impacting event and resolve or escalate in a timely manner.
    • Windows servers and storage infrastructure are built and managed according to best practices
    • Support documentation is complete, concise and placed into the central repository  
    • Ensures the virtual infrastructure is current and resource contention among VMs is kept to a minimum
    • Server performance issues are addressed and remediated prior to becoming problematic
