  • Overview

    Purpose of Role

    The Junior Content Engineer is responsible for supporting the International Content Engineering & Encoding environment, establishing and maintaining workflows to ensure that Vubiquity transcoding outbound format standards are met. Assist in the development and support of transcoding workflow automation. Establish and maintain profiles for transcoding platforms that include Elemental, ATEME, Carbon and Vantage. Responsible for developing automated analysis profiles using Cerify.     

    Vubiquity’s technology platform is a key factor contributing towards the group’s competitive advantage, and hence commercial success.  Content processing is at the heart of Vubiquity’s business, as such this is critical to be functioning optimally.  In this way the Junior Content Engineer will play a key part in the success of the organization.


    Primary Activities and KPI’s

    • How is the role measured?
      • Accuracy and timeliness of support delivered to operational teams
      • Accuracy and timeliness of configuration and maintenance performed


    • What are the deliverables?
      • Provide support to enable operational teams to perform content processing without issue or delay
      • Configuration and testing of transcoding profiles in aid of platform upgrades and new customer on-boarding
      • Content processing system maintenance


    • How often is that updated?

    The deliverables are updated as business projects priorities change


    • How is the role split time wise?
    • 40% Operational support
    • 50% System support and maintenance
    • 10% New customer on-boarding


    Role and Responsibilities

    • Troubleshoot a variety of technical and operational issues while applying company policies and procedures.
    • Assist in maintenance of media encoding and transcoding platforms, to ensure the highest accuracy, stability, performance and quality.

    • Participate in transcoder upgrade process by creating test files and liaising with internal operational teams to obtain client sign off.

    • Assist with documenting content ingest, processing and delivery workflows.
    • Assist with new customer onboardings and changes to existing customer profiles and workflows.
    • Liaise with relevant technology and operational teams to ensure project delivery.
    • Provide status updates on tasks and escalate to line manager any issues or threats that arise to project delivery timelines.
    • Gain an understanding of industry standards and trends with regards to best practices.


    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Education: BS degree in Media Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience.
    • Demonstrable experience with video/audio codecs, MPEG-4/h.264, h.265, MPEG-2, VC1, ProRes required.
    • Demonstrable experience of enterprise content processing solutions, (Elemental, Vantage, ATEME), an advantage.
    • Demonstrable understanding of automated quality assurance solutions, (Cerify, Baton).
    • Demonstrable understanding of working with access services and localisation an advantage.
    • Demonstrable understanding of OTT delivery, including smooth streaming, DASH and HLS an advantage.
    • Demonstrable understanding of DRM solutions, PlayReady, Widevine, CENC an advantage.
    • Knowledge of open source media libraries such as ffmpeg an advantage.

    • Good problem solving abilities and able to think creatively
    • Good attention to detail
    • Possess strong technical understanding that will enable effective communication within the Content Engineering team.
    • Possess the ability to articulate technical issues in a non-technical manner to non-technical people
    • Well organised and able to prioritise workload according to competing business priorities
    • Able to identify process improvements and work with relevant teams to implement
